Longchen Rabjam was one of the greatest and most prolific authors of Tibet.  As well as hundreds of individual texts he wrote several major anthologies.  Amongst the anthologies are three trilogies.  One of the trilogies, called "The Resting Up Trilogy" is commonly used by followers of Great Completion (Dzogchen) practice as the basis for setting out on the path of Great Completion.

It is my hope to translate the entire trilogy.  It is an important task because this really is the basis for Great Completion practice.  Unfortunately, because it has not been translated, those following Great Completion are missing a whole series of texts that are most important for them.  So far we have produced two volumes of the texts in this major anthology.  All of the texts in these two volumes are essential to understanding the main texts of the anthology, but have not been available in English until now.

This first volume contains the catalogue for the trilogy and the overview for the trilogy.  The catalogue is not merely a list of the texts comprising the trilogy but shows the reason for each item in the trilogy.  The overview for the trilogy is a book in its own right, which has wonderful stories from the time of the Buddha and which altogether sets the stage for the actual content of the trilogy.

The special feature of the thirteenth chapter of the Guhyagarbha Tantra is that it very clearly explains how the ultimate view of great completion applies to the creation stage of a deity.  Padmasambhava's teaching explains this at length.  The book is truly an amazing collection of material that is regarded as crucial for Nyingma practitioners but cannot be found elsewhere in English.

The book contains a translation of the following texts:
"A Thousand Petalled Lotus", the catalogue text for the Resting Up Trilogy
"An Ocean of Elegant Explanations" the overview text for the Resting Up Trilogy

This second volume contains the three guidebooks for the the trilogy.  These guidebooks show how to actually practise the material presented in their corresponding base texts.  These guidebooks are intensely practical and bring the more scholarly material of each of the three basic texts of the trilogy into clear and useful focus.
